In 1839/40, above Unterölsbach, a more than 20 meter "deep incision" had to be made in the Jura rock for the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal, which was clad with ashlar walls. Originally, Heinrich von Pechmann had planned a "vaulted tunnel" here.
