The Heustadlwasser is located in the middle of the green Prater in Vienna. It is a former branch of the Danube that flowed as an island around a frequently flooded floodplain area, the Krieau, from the Vienna Trade Fair to the Lusthaus. A hay barn was built on this "island" for feeding wild animals, hence the name of the water body.
