The historic old town of Santiago de Compostela, together with the cathedral, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The tangle of alleyways in the old town is best explored on foot. The sights are not far apart.
The tour to the roof of the cathedral is really worthwhile. The tour costs 12€ and for pilgrims 10€.
