A swampy meadow landscape stretches on both sides of the path. The meadow to the east of the path shows clear traces of the earlier efforts of the farming people to make the damp meadows more usable with simple means. The wavy shape of the meadow shows that an attempt was made to remove at least the higher wall locations from the groundwater influence by relocating the soil. However, the success was rather modest. However, when the groundwater levels are high, you can still see that the water collects in the small depressions below the embankments and the embankments remain dry.

From a botanical point of view, the wet meadows in the Kleinen Bruch are among the most valuable wet meadow areas in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The great diversity of species in the meadows is particularly evident in spring, when cuckoo campion, marsh marigold, buttercups and orchids cover the meadows with their rich blossoms. Reasons for the significantly greater abundance of species compared to normal grassland are the low fertilizer application, the extensive cultivation and the constant water influence on the wet meadows. In many other areas, this habitat has declined sharply through drainage and fertilization or through conversion to arable land. Due to this intensification of use, large population losses have been recorded for numerous species associated with wet meadows in recent decades. It is therefore very important to protect and care for the remaining wet meadows.
