The unmistakable, white, modern towers with their gilded spires have belonged to the Benedictine monastery "Na Slovanech" since the 1960s, whose church towers were destroyed in the bombing of Prague in 1945. The monastery was founded by Charles IV in 1347 and developed into a center of education and art, as well as a center of Slavic literature. Some remnants of valuable Gothic wall paintings have been preserved in the cloister, and the Church of the Virgin Mary is painted in the Beuron style.
