Anyone who passes through the town of Lautenthal (located in the north-western Upper Harz at an altitude of around 300 metres) on the L515 or coming from the L516 will not fail to notice the mining history. Today it is a state-approved climatic health resort, and has belonged to the town of Langelsheim in the Goslar district since 1972. The small town got its name from the river "Laute", which flows through this town alongside the Innerste.

Lautenthal's main street needs a general overhaul again. But that's the only thing that's annoying. From here on, the Harz really begins and you can feel it straight away when you drive into the town coming from Langelsheim.
