The large Saale bridge in Weißenfels is expected to become a construction site from autumn 2023. The state road building authority of Saxony-Anhalt will build a new bridge on site. An arched bridge is planned. The old Saale bridge is demolished. The measure will take at least two years in total. It will not be possible to cross the Saale at this point during the entire construction period. Pedestrians have to dodge to the Pfennigbrücke. The detour for motorists leads via the B 91 bypass.The existing three-span reinforced concrete bridge was built in 1952. It is the only crossing of the Saale within the town of Weißenfels that can be used by public transport. It is therefore extremely important for inner-city and regional traffic. During the last inspection of the bridge, it was found that the stability and traffic safety of the structure are impaired. Among other things, the roadway has too little concrete cover. In addition, chips and cracks were found in numerous places. For example, the components on which the bridge rests have cracks and defects. The damage has already led to moisture penetration. There are nicer places to rest

The Saale Bridge offers a beautiful view towards the old town with the tower of the Evangelical Church of St. Marien and Neu-Augustusburg Castle above the old town. Down the Saale, the view also sweeps to the Bismarck Tower peeping out of the trees.
