Well designed market square but was being used as an illegal football pitch when we visited the city

The market square of Weißenfels is centrally located in the old town near the Saale. It is surrounded on all sides by baroque buildings. From here there is a beautiful view of the castle, which lies on a flesen above the city. The so-called “Princely House” on the market is an important testimony to the Weissenfels ducal era. The two-storey house with a facade that is well worth seeing served primarily as the residence of high ducal court officials.
On the southern side of the Weißenfels market square there are town houses from the 17th century. Here, the former hotel "Sächsischer Hof" stands out with its magnificent facade. The three-storey building, with an asymmetrically arranged gate, also served as a space for performances by the poet Louise von Francois. She spent her childhood here.
