The olive tree of Kavousi was classified as monumental by the Association of Olive Oil Producing Communities of Crete (SEDIK). The classification is based on the extreme size of its tribe and its proximity to the ancient sites "Vrontas", "Kastro" and "Azoria". In these sites, which date back to Late Minoan IIIC (1200-1100 BC) and the archaic era (1350-500 BC), many objects were found that suggest the production of olive oil.
