Built by the Jesuits in 1577 in the Mannerist style, with Baroque and Neoclassical elements added later.

After the expulsion of the Jesuits, it passed to the University of Coimbra and then to the Discalced Augustinians, whose dark habit earned them the nickname "grilos" (crickets), the origin of its name.
It currently belongs to the Major Seminary of Porto and houses the Museum of Sacred Art and Archaeology.
