The gates are in good conditions, easy to open and close. The “mongolian-type” landscapes are inspiring.

EUROPEAN DIVIDE TRAIL 2026: from the Spanish border (Paymogo) to MÉRTOLA. Updating the route to avoid closed gates, fences and guard dogs. This line works for this summer!
No, the European Divide route mapped out by Andy Cox isn’t a touring route. Nor is it a EuroVelo route. Yes, there are sections here where you’ll have to walk your bike uphill, and perhaps some downhill sections where it’s better to dismount before you fall.

Pastures are frequently moved; sometimes paths are closed to prevent livestock from escaping; and some landowners are promoting their properties as hunting

Two hours of happiness, hiking near Caiat. If you book in advance with Mr. Daniel Pinto, you can have food and sleep in this little village. Beautiful views and a 2000m peak in the surroundings (Djebel Kelti).
