The Munich Olympic assassination attempt on September 5, 1972 was an attack by the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September on the Israeli team at the Olympic Games. It began as a hostage-taking and ended with the murder of all 11 Israeli hostages and the deaths of five hostage-takers and one policeman

The Memorial to the Victims of the 1972 Olympic Attack is a sculpture by the German sculptor Fritz Koenig (1924–2017) and is titled Klagebalken. It was erected on September 27, 1995 in the Olympic Park in Munich and is located on the connecting path from the Olympic Stadium to the former Olympic Village, precisely where a support cable of the tent roof construction is anchored. It commemorates the victims of the Munich Olympic attack.

The memorial is a ten meter wide granite beam, which is supported in the middle by a base.
The names of the eleven killed Israeli hostages are carved in Hebrew letters on the beam:
    Moses Vineyard
    Yosef Romano
    Zeev Friedman
    David Mark Berger
    Yakov Springer
    Eliezer Halfin
    Yossef Gutfreund
    Kohat Shorr
    Mark Slavin
    Andre Spitzer
    Amitzur Shapira

and in Latin letters the name of the Bavarian policeman who died trying to free himself in Fürstenfeldbruck.
    Anton Fliegerbauer
