The origin of the parish goes back to the 13th century. The Gothic church dates from the early 16th century, the white sandstone tower was raised in 1689.
Church was destroyed in 1914 and rebuilt in 1923-24. Destroyed again at the start of World War II in 1940. The church was rebuilt, broadly following the approach of the old church
