On the relatively small area of 400 hectares you walk under oak forests and conifers, on grasslands, heaths and marshy meadows.
Be inspired by the forest as writer Hendrick Conscience did for his books!

The Zoerselbos is a vast nature reserve of 400ha with a varied landscape, in which coniferous and deciduous forests, grasslands, wooded edges and watercourses alternate. The Zoerselbos is also a very 'old' forest. That is why the Zoerselbos is of great historical and scientific importance. It is one of the most important sites of autochthonous and indigenous trees and shrubs in Flanders. The fact that the Zoerselbos still exists today is due to the non-profit organization 'De Vrienden van het Zoerselbos', who ensured that it was protected as a landscape in 1985. Given the importance of the Zoerselbos, the Flemish government switched to an active purchasing policy in the early 1990s. Meanwhile, approximately 300ha of the Zoerselbos is owned and managed by the Agency for Nature and Forest.

The writer Hendrick Conscience, a Flemish national hero, was inspired by this fairytale forest. His greatest success was the historical novel "De leeuw van Vlaanderen", published in 1838. The novel describes the struggle of the Flemish against French oppression.

On a relatively small area of 400 hectares you cycle between oak and pine forests, through meadows, heath and swampy pastures. Several rare plants and 1800 species of mushrooms prove that the Zoersel Forest is not just a collection of plants, but a valuable biotope.
