The Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance is one of ten ministries of Lower Saxony. It is housed in the listed, former Provincial-Ständehaus am Schiffgraben.
The Ständehaus was built in 1879/80 by the architect and royal architect Friedrich Ferdinand Carl Wallbrecht (1840 - 1905) at the Schiffgraben in Hanover. As long as Hanover was a Prussian province, the Ständehaus served as a conference venue for the Provincial Assembly and as the main building of the provincial administration, until it was almost completely destroyed in 1943. As early as 1946, the then head of the provincial government and later Prime Minister Hinrich Wilhelm Kopf pursued the idea of having the Ständehausruine repaired for the Hannoversche Landtag, so that reconstruction began in mid-1947. In 1949 the south wing was rebuilt, in 1950 the north wing and in 1951 the rear part. However, it soon became clear that the building would not be big enough for a Landtag use, especially in the plenary hall. Therefore, it was decided in 1949 to renounce the Ständehaus as a state parliament building and assign this to the Ministry of Finance as a service building. However, there is no special relationship between the Ständehaus and the Ministry of Finance. Decisive was rather the center distant accommodation of this Ministry in the immediate post-war time in Hanover Kirchrode.Die facades of the Ständehauses were reconstructed as far as possible orginalgetreu.

As long as Hanover was a Prussian province, the Ständehaus served as a meeting place for the provincial parliament and as the main building for the provincial administration until it was almost completely destroyed in 1943. As early as 1946, the then senior president of the province and later first prime minister, Hinrich Wilhelm Kopf, pursued the idea of having the Ständehaus ruins repaired for the Hanover state parliament, so that reconstruction began in mid-1947. Therefore, it was decided as early as 1949 to abandon the Ständehaus as a state parliament building and to assign it to the Ministry of Finance as an office building. However, there is no special relationship between the Estates House and the Ministry of Finance. Rather, the decisive factor was the location of this ministry in Hanover-Kirchrode, away from the center in the immediate post-war period. The facades of the Estates House were reconstructed as close to the original as possible.

The building of the Ministry of Finance was built between 1879 and 1881 by Ferdinand Wallbrecht as the Estates House. The provincial self-insurance was based here until 1945.
