The chapel was designed by architects Mikko Summanen, Niko Sirola and Kimmo Lintula of Helsinki architecture firm K2S Architects and was completed in 2012. It was part of the program at World Design Capital Helsinki 2012.
Even before completion, the chapel received the Chicago Athenaeum's International Architecture Award in 2010.
