The Place de l'Etoile (Star Square) takes its name from a former inn. The mill canal once flowed across the square, which was also used for calibrating barrels, hence the name "Sinnplatz" (meaning place). The number of mills powered by the Ehn or the canal varied over time. A flourishing viticulture industry and a diverse range of crafts promoted the town's development during the Renaissance. Obernai wine was sold primarily in northern Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the Vosges Mountains.

Really very pretty and somehow romantic and blends in with the picturesque surroundings of the town. It was only completely inconspicuous in the early wintry evening hours because it wasn't lit, I thought that was a pity, it doesn't really come into its own anymore and I was almost a bit disappointed.
