The monument was erected to honor Italian artillery weapons and inaugurated on June 15, 1930, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Battle of Piave (1918), an event in which the Piedmontese armed corps played an instrumental role in victory.
The project was entrusted by the Artillery Weapons Monument Committee to Pietro Canonica (a sculptor from Turin, a student of Odoardo Tabacchi) in 1926. Construction was very slow due to lack of economic resources, which required financing several times. large by the municipality of Turin.
