Very nice water mill below the Domfelsen on the Lahn.
Historically, the Obermühle is the most important mill in the town of Limburg an der Lahn. It has probably existed since the beginning of the 13th century - at that time under the name Stiftsmühle.
In the 13th century there was a decree in Limburg that said all grain had to be ground in this mill.
In 1373 the mill had to be rebuilt because a flood swept it away.
At the end of the 19th century, a major fire broke out in the mill, causing massive damage. It was only after a great deal of effort that the condition of the mill could be restored. In 1999 the old mill wheel was restored and restored to its original state. The water mill's wheel weighs just under 17 tons and produces more than 90,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
Today there is a beer garden and a gastronomic facility in the mill, so that it is a frequented destination, especially in good weather.
