The Grote Netewoud is a collective name for a series of quasi-contiguous nature reserves along the Grote Nete with a total area of 340 hectares of swamps, fens, wetland forests and heath.[1] The Grote Netewoud is located on the territory of the Kempen sub-municipalities of Balen, Olmen (Balen), Hulsen (Balen), Meerhout and Bel (Geel) and is largely part of the Natura 2000 network (as 'Overloop van de Grote Nete with Zammelsbroek, Langdonken and Goor'). With European support, the aim is to create a nature reserve with an area of 2500 ha.
