At the main entrance (KA-Oststadt) is the chapel and the restored Carl Ratzel Fountain (2019). It is the largest cemetery in Karlsruhe.

Nordic walking

One of the oldest municipal park cemeteries in Germany and, with 34 hectares and approx. 32,000 graves, a very large one. Laid out in the 1870s, when the old cemetery in Kappellenstraße became too small. Winding avenues of plane trees instead of rigid axes were part of the novel concept of the park cemetery at the time. While representative monuments stood along the main paths, simpler graves were hidden behind hedges. The former crematorium, now a chapel for small-scale funerals, is located on higher ground. Much to discover.

A beautiful and lovingly designed cemetery. Some of the graves are very artistic, and the cemetery itself resembles a beautiful park. The famous designer Luigi Colani also found his final resting place here.
