The Goethe Monument in Asch commemorates some of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's visits during his travels from Weimar via Hof and Hazlov to the West Bohemian spas. The market fountain from 1867 was redesigned as a Goethe monument and unveiled on August 28, 1932. Due to the construction of a roundabout, the fountain and statue were dismantled in 2008 and stored for restoration. During dismantling, a glass container containing postcards, newspapers, coins and documents from the inauguration year of 1932 was found in a metal box. The planned re-installation was repeatedly delayed due to lack of funds, but was finally realized just a few meters from the original location.
