The Pietzmoor near Schneverdingen is one of the most recommendable hiking areas on the Lüneburg Heath. Here the heath shows its completely different side. Former peat cuts rewetted by the Naturschutzpark e.V. (VNP) association and its Lüneburg Heath Nature Conservation Park foundation with bright green peat moss, sinking birch stumps and shallow cotton grass stand in contrast to the heath areas on dry, barren soil. This fascinating high moor landscape is more than 8,000 years old.
