De Krijtberg - actually Sint-Franciscus Xaveriuskerk - is a Roman Catholic church. It was built in its current form in 1881 in neo-Gothic style and is one of the oldest and most important branches of the Jesuit order in the Netherlands. Its beginnings go back to the beginning of the 16th century when the Jesuit Pieter Laurenz set up a private chapel in a private household. Since the Catholic faith was officially forbidden, the Catholic faith was practiced in secret for a long time.
