The 62 meter high tower of the former St. Peter's Church stands on the Petersberg, a hill in the city center of Nordhausen. Inside there is a small museum on the history of this church and Petersberg. From above you have a beautiful view of the city and its surrounding area.
On the Petersberg there was probably a Germanic place of worship and thing place in pre-Christian times, i.e. a court and meeting place. In the course of Christianization, it was customary to build a church in such places and dedicate it to Saint Peter.
