The town hall is a listed secular buildingThe three-winged building in the style of the German Renaissance was built from 1905 to 1906 under the direction of Ludwig Bopp, a representative of the Munich School. The central building, in which the council chamber is located, was bricked from local dolomite limestone. It is characterized by a columned portal, two gables and a high hipped roof with a viewing lantern. A wing in Bergisch Sitl with a half-timbered upper floor and a southern German-style, simple plastered building, which is decorated with a sundial and a mural with a view of the city from around 1800, were added to each side.

The old town hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It is hardly ever used by the administration and is primarily used for representative purposes.

For generations, the Zanders papermaking family has shaped the image of the city. Economically, but also in the field of architecture. The design for the Gladbach town hall goes back to an initiative by Richard Zanders, who chose the architect Ludwig Bopp for it.
