On Sunday 26 August 2007 the official unveiling of the statue (in bronze) of Kiekeboe took place in Zoersel. It was commissioned by the city council and realized by the Temse sculptor Valeer Peirsman. The choice to have the Temsenaar create the statue was Merho's own. Familiar with Temse and V. Peirsman's artworks (including comic book hero Jommeke), he thought the Temse artist was the right man. The monument depicts Marcel Kiekeboe, sitting on a bench on the grass square below the church tower. Next to him is room for a co-worker, so that the monument lends itself perfectly to being photographed with the comic book hero, an opportunity that was generously used from the very first moment. Peekaboo is celebrating its 30th birthday this year and both in Zoersel, Merho's hometown.

At the Sint-Elisabethkerk in Zoersel you will find the statue of Marcel Kiekeboe. He is one of the main characters of the comic series De Kiekeboes, which is drawn and written by Merho, pseudonym of Robert Merhottein. Marcel, the father of the Kiekeboe family, has his birthday on October 24, just like the cartoonist.
