In 1972, Ackermann purchased a railway guard's house in Gäufelden-Nebringen. Since 1973, he has created works in steel, wood, and stone. The artist has presented solo and group exhibitions since 1979. Starting in 1986, Ackermann expanded the railway guard's house, including its studio and grounds, into a Gesamtkunstwerk (KKW) called "Kunst-Kraft-Werk" (KKW).
