The history of the Dijlepark is connected to the Dijle mills and a mansion that was built here in a street around the park.

In the past, there were many mills upstream of this location. At one point, the Driutiuscollege owned a mill that stood where the Dijle mills now stand. That college also had a garden where the park is now. That garden is in turn at the base of the garden and the pavilion that later belonged to the house of Bethlehem, a mansion dating from 1856.

The mansion and the associated land were bought by the son of former mayor Leopold Vander Kelen who started an industrial bakery in the garden where the biscuits "Le Lion" were produced. In 1972, the then Boerenbond bought the house and part of the garden became a parking lot.

In 1987, an agreement was made with the city to convert the rest of the garden into a small park. The Dijlepark has been there since 1994 and was designed by architect Renilde D’Haese. More recently, everything was taken over by the KUL. Info at dijlewolven.be/dijlepark-geschiedenis

The blue bridge over the pond of this - for some hidden resting place - is currently closed. You can enter the park from three sides, also via the Dijlemolens.

According to a poster on the window, the pavilion is being used to make it a meeting place as part of the Buurtwerking Groot Redingenhof, in collaboration with the city.

This romantic park is one of the hidden gems of Leuven. Noteworthy are the refined bridge and gazebo. Ideal for a picnic or a rest.
