A short stop along the stage from LORO CIUFFENNA (Ar) to ACQUAPENDENTE (Vt): BAGNO VIGNONI, one of those places in Tuscany that truly possess the charm of yesteryear!
Bagno Vignoni, a very small village with few inhabitants, can be found on geographical maps… always!
Both the Etruscans and the Romans loved its thermal water springs.
Pedaling around here is likely to never reach your destination, it is a constant stop to take pictures of the village and the famous views of the Val d’Orcia.
Bagno Vignoni is truly unique: nowhere else in Italy will you find a swimming pool, located in the central square, full of hot thermal water: 49 meters long and 29 wide, this Renaissance-era square was built exactly above the original source of water thermal baths, the same that the Romans also enjoyed.
We also have a bathing suit with us, but unfortunately we will use it tomorrow on Lake Bolsena, today we don't have time!
Even if we could not bathe directly in the swimming pool in the square, it would be possible to do it a little further downstream in the "Parco dei Mulini", and enjoy the benefits of these waters for FREE, which flow at a temperature of 52 ° and are the hottest from all over Tuscany.

Bagno Vignoni is one of those very famous places in Tuscany despite its size not being comparable to that of a small town. Why? Naturally, the reason lies in its charm of times gone by, but not only that... it is also due to the presence of the spa! For this reason I advise you to add a stop to your itinerary and stop in Bagno Vignoni, also to enjoy the magnificent and famous views of the Val d'Orcia, including the Rocca di Tentennano in Castiglione d'Orcia.

Bagno Vignoni is truly unique: in no other location in Italy will you find a swimming pool, located in the central square, full of hot thermal water: 49 meters long and 29 meters wide, this Renaissance-era square was built exactly above the original water source spa, the same one that the Romans also used.

Bagno Vignoni has been on geographical maps...always! Both the Etruscans and the Romans loved thermal water springs and not, of course, only for hygienic reasons but also, and above all, for their beneficial properties. Since the 9th century, both these spas and those of Bagni San Filippo, located a little further south, at the foot of Mount Amiata, have been mentioned in the old travel diaries of abbots and others who undertook their pilgrimage to Rome (and many even towards Jerusalem). Bagno Vignoni is, in fact, just a few minutes away from the Via Francigena, one of the most important roads traveled by pilgrims who left from England to reach Rome and the Holy Land. Some of the most famous figures in history have frequented the Bagno Vignoni spa on a regular and constant basis, such as Pope Pius II, Catherine of Siena, Lorenzo the Magnificent to name a few.

The Bagno Vignoni spa has always allowed the town to have water even during the hottest summer months, which is why several mills have been built along the Orcia river over the centuries; these ancient mills, together with a complex system of water channels and gorges, today constitute what is also known as Parco dei Mulini, created in the 1990s.

Bagno Vignoni is a small medieval village built more than a thousand years ago, in the heart of the Val d'Orcia. Peculiar to this village is the main square, consisting of a thermal pool (where it is not possible to swim) which makes the landscape truly unique. Below the hill on which the village stands there are two other pools with thermal water. The water flows from above the city to the ponds, overflows and flows into the river.
