This is Vignoni Alto: a small aggregate made up of buildings that belonged to the ancient castle of the same name. Its origins date back to the eleventh century, as a possession of the Abbey of Sant'Antimo.

Vignoni Alto, a picturesque medieval village perched on a hill, offers breathtaking views of Castiglione d'Orcia and the Val d'Orcia. With its rich history dating back to the eleventh century, the village is a living monument of feudal times, with remains such as a high tower and the Romanesque church of San Biagio. Despite its small population of only 28 inhabitants, Vignoni Alto retains its unique charm and character. The spectacular views of the Orcia Valley below complete the visit to this well-preserved Tuscan fortified hill town.

1st half of the 12th century. The noble Tignosi family from the neighboring Rocca d'Orcia owns the castle.
Early 13th century The rich Siena tries to get the castle into his possession. For this reason, from 1207 Vignoni requires extra taxes.
13-14. At first Vignoni manages to remain independent of Siena. The property changes from the family Tignosi to the Salimbeni.
Late 14th century Siena becomes the property of the castle.
