The Palace in Arcugów is one of the later examples of English neo-Gothic residences in Greater Poland, surrounded by a landscape park with preserved elements of the composition of the earlier, regular garden in the Italian style.
In 1815, Michał Rożnowski, a member of the Four-Year Sejm, built a neo-Gothic palace surrounded by a landscape park. In 1848, he added a wing to the palace on the south side.
In 1886, Arcugowo passed into the hands of Romuald Rzewuski, coat of arms Krzywda, doctor of philosophy, counselor of the Land Credit Society, and it was he who, in 1910, added the first floor of the main building, the tower and the winter garden pavilion adjacent to the palace at the back. He also built an octagonal tower in the northern corner.
During this expansion, a chapel was also built south of the main building, which was connected to the palace by a balcony. It is worth adding that, in addition to the expansion, he introduced electricity, water supply and steam heating to the palace! At that time, the whole area was surrounded by a landscape park with an area of 3.8 ha.
The manor is modeled on English late Gothic architecture. Nothing of the original furnishings and interior design has survived.
In the 1970s, Prime Minister Piotr Jaroszewicz, who loved to come here for hunting, stayed in the palace several times. First Secretary Edward Gierek was also often there. There was a time when this was their favorite place to feast. High-ranking Soviet generals also came to Arcugów. There are many anecdotes about their stay among the inhabitants of the area...
