Even before the beginning of the Second World War, the manor owner and patron of Eisenach, Eichel-Streiber, who lived in Eisenach and the neighboring town of Berka in front of the Hainich, sold a 300-hectare parcel on the border with Hütscheroda for the construction of a military training area on Künkel.
The military area initially served as a testing and shooting range for artillery pieces manufactured in Eisenach.
After the war, the Kindel firing range was expanded and used as a tank firing range by the group of the Soviet armed forces in Germany.(Source: Wikipedia)
