The Peace Memorial commemorates the Soviet soldiers killed in the battles at the end of World War II. In the Baruth glacial valley, Soviet formations met the 9th Army of the Wehrmacht, which was fleeing from the Halber Kessel. The T34, the most built and most shot down Soviet standard tank of the Second World War, became the monumental tank par excellence.
