The Weißbachquelle is only 40 meters from the border with the Czech Republic and is actually the origin of the Ascha. This is a 40 km long tributary of the Scharzach. Topographical conditions force the water to travel 4.5 km through Czech territory before it reaches Bavaria again at Friedrichshäng. The specialty are the two names of the watercourse. In the Czech Republic it has the German name Weißbach and in Bavaria it is the Ascha, a Slavic river name.
