Archduke Ludwig Salvator once had this refuge built for hikers, whom he wanted to introduce to the nature of Mallorca. In his time, hiking as a leisure activity was still very unusual. The refuge was the first hikers' hostel in Spain.
It had fallen into disrepair in the meantime, but the Muntanya del Voltor association rebuilt it.
The place is very magical, you sit enthroned above the sea and can see Palma in the distance - at the same time you feel very comfortable and protected. The Archduke had a very good feeling for special places...
