The mill was a ban mill = duty mill. The farmers were obliged to have their grain ground here.
The mill property was a feud of the prince bishops of Würzburg and later of the prince bishops of Bamberg. These enfeoffed the mill to the lords of Egloffstein zu Mühlhausen.
