The castle of the Dukes of Lorraine sits strategically on a rocky outcrop in the Moselle valley above the town of Sierck-les-Bains. It was probably built in the 11th century on the ruins of the "Circum Castellum", a Gallo-Roman fort. Of the old castle, which was destroyed in 1643, only a short, solid side of the wall remains on the plateau.
The ruins have now been secured and partially reconstructed. A visit is worthwhile - also because of the view.
Duration of the tour approx. 1 - 1½ hours, last entry 1 hour before closing

A cozy French town with a magnificent and worth-seeing fortress ruin. Not overcrowded but absolutely beautiful with plenty of charm. Many old buildings, some of which are abandoned, are still worth seeing.
