The solar system is a planetary system. It consists of the sun, eight planets orbiting it (from the inside out: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune), their natural satellites, the dwarf planets, other small bodies (comets, asteroids and meteoroids) and from innumerable gas and dust particles that are bound to the sun by its gravitational pull.
