This is where the success story of the Herrnhut Stars began in 1897.
Created over 160 years ago in the bosom of the Moravian Church, the Moravian Star is considered the origin of all Christmas stars. At the beginning of the 19th century, the first star made of paper and cardboard shone in the boarding school rooms of the Moravian Church. In the 19th century, the boarding school rooms were mainly home to missionary children. Since living conditions in the mission areas were often adverse, parents sent their children back home when they reached school age. They received an education and upbringing under the care of the Moravian Church.
The history of the “Stammhaus – since 1897” is closely linked to the book and music dealer Pieter Hendrik Verbeek. On September 3rd, 1894, P.H. Verbeek opened the "book, art and music store" in the Winter House in Herrnhut and had the current headquarters of Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH built in parallel in 1894/1895. In 1895, the company moved to the headquarters, where Herrnhuter stars had been sold since 1897.
The headquarters of Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH combines historical scenery and traditional craftsmanship. Herrnhuter stars have been available to buy in the headquarters since 1897 and with a new design and concept, it combines tradition and modernity. The newly created "Werk Raum" shop area stands for exclusivity and quality and represents handcraft in its purest form - created by exquisite manufacturers.
