The Augsburg was in service with the German Navy from 1989 to 2019, where it was the seventh Bremen-class frigate. It bore the name of the Bavarian city of Augsburg. Predecessors were the light cruiser Augsburg of the Imperial Navy and a Cologne-class frigate of the Federal Navy.
In an allusion to the band of pirates in the play Jim Button and the Wilde 13 performed by the Augsburger Puppenkiste, her nickname was "Wilde 13".
