The St. Erhard chapel was consecrated in 1752, it was built in place of a small wooden chapel and served as a branch chapel of the Liebfrauenkirche in Gernsbach until 1915. Due to the increasing number of inhabitants, it soon became too small despite the extension. Similar conditions prevailed in the St. Sebastian's chapel in neighboring Hilpertsau, which is why both parishes had the common Herz-Jesu-Kirche built in Obertsrot from 1914 to 1915 and the chapel was profaned. The Sebastian chapel was converted into a residential building, the St. Erhard chapel served as a gym for the Obertsrot gymnastics club, which was founded in 1906, until the Ebersteinhalle was completed in 1984. It was actually supposed to be broken off afterwards in order to improve the entrance to the paper factory behind it. The demolition was prevented by the state monument protection and the chapel was completely renovated by the city of Gernsbach and a support group in the years 2003 to 2010. It was possible to save the chapel thanks to a donation of bricks, considerable financial support from the city, state subsidies, generous donations from companies and citizens and the great voluntary commitment of members of the support group to the renovation of the bell tower and the redesign of the interior. From 1752 to 1915 it served as a church for the citizens of Obertsrot, then the St. Erhard Chapel was secularized after the completion of the Sacred Heart Church and served as a gymnasium until 1984. It was actually supposed to be demolished to simplify access to the Gruber & Weber cardboard factory, now Mayr-Melnhof Gernsbach. But the monument protection authorities rejected the demolition of the baroque church and a support group founded in 2000 took over the renovation and restoration of the historic building with the support of the city of Gernsbach, the monument protection authorities and numerous sponsors.
It now serves as the "Obertsrot Festival House" for musical and other cultural events, e.g. for regular line dance practice sessions; it can also be used occasionally for family celebrations and anniversaries.
