In 1892 a Capuchin monastery was founded in Krefeld, two years later the Capuchin and parish church of St. Elisabeth was built. It was opened on December 23, 1894, and on August 24, 1895 the consecration of the monastery church of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia was celebrated. After it was completely destroyed by bombing on June 22, 1944, reconstruction was completed in 1951 and the church was consecrated on Ascension Day. In 1992 the order decided to dissolve the local monastery after almost 100 years. The parish sold the monastery building. As part of a diocese-wide structural reform, the congregation merged with St. Anna and St. Thomas More in 2014. On Easter Sunday 2016, the church was partially dedicated and sold. This provided the prerequisites for the transformation into the Sepulchre Church . This was designed according to plans by the architects Monika Aulbur and Willi Thelen (Mönchengladbach), the glass paintings are by Jochem Poensgen. From the altar, a brass line runs through the floor to the baptismal font, this is intended to symbolize a line of life: "From birth to death".
