At the bottom of the Jochenstein, a rock rising high from the Danube waters, there once stood a magnificent fairytale castle. The lovely, golden-haired mermaid Isa, a sister of the Loreley of the Rhine, ruled this fairy-tale castle. In shimmering dresses, with a green reed wreath or a garland of colorful flowers in her hair, she appeared to the fishermen on bright moonlit nights. Even when thick fog made river travel dangerous, she showed herself to the fishermen as a warning. But woe to the unfortunate person who followed her seductive temptations or her wonderful singing, he was doomed forever.

A Madonna image, erected as a vow by a mother whose son resisted the temptations, put an end to the beautiful ghostly haunting. Mrs. Isa never showed herself to the Danube boatmen again. The fishermen have never seen or heard of her since then either."

The mermaid on the Jochenstein has since been destroyed by wind and weather, so a replacement had to be created. The well-known artist Michael Lauss from Wegscheid was commissioned to create a new mermaid in 2014 and it was unveiled in 2015 at the site in Jochenstein, where she has since then wistfully watched the Danube flow and happily watched the ships heading to Germany. The "new" mermaid Isa is made of granite and oak and is designed to withstand the weather for a long time with these robust materials.

Nice rest area with mixe and swing, directly on the Danube.
