The village church of Trans Kirke is today on the edge of the sea. It used to be in the middle of the church, but the sea conquered the land and took half of the church. Today, Trans Church lies less than 100 meters from the North Sea just north of the last Ice Age principal residence line.

It is estimated that about 1 meter of shoreline has disappeared each year in the past, so the shoreline may have been about 1 kilometer to the west when the church was built in the 12th century.

The current church is not the first on the site. During the restoration of the church 25 years ago, traces of at least 2 older wooden churches were found under the church floor.

Remains of the wooden churches that predate today's Romanesque stone churches have been found in only a few places in the country. In West Jutland, archaeologists have found remains of wooden churches under Trans Church and Vorgod Church at Videbæk.
