The Neumühle (Elster) train station was opened on July 17, 1875 as the Neumühle stop and was consecrated as a train station in 1905. The station received its current name in 1922. After the original reception building was moved to Wildetaube in 1891, the station received the current red brick building. The station also has a wooden waiting hall and a goods shed.

The Gera Süd–Weischlitz railway (also: Elstertalbahn) is a single-track main railway in Thuringia and Saxony, which was originally built and operated by the Saxon-Thuringian Railway Company. It runs in the valley of the White Elster from Gera via Greiz and Plauen to Weischlitz, with a stop at Neumühle (Elster).
