From 1344 until the secularization in 1819 the village Netzow belonged to the cathedral chapter Havelberg, which also initiated the construction of the late Gothic village church in the late 15th century. Almost unchanged from the time of construction, the west bar-like transverse rectangular west tower is made of field stone with brick corners. To support the tower, buttresses were added several times later.

In 1884 the church was extended to the east by a recessed rectangular chancel. A stepped gable was added to the former end wall in the east.

In 2008, the church was used as a location for the film The White Ribbon - A German Children's Story by Michael Haneke.
