So, the hotel was not closed because the train was set. The hotel burned down. When exactly can you read above, I mean early 1970s. The Stöberhai monument is located just below the summit, where you can also see a picture of what the listening devices looked like.

The Stöberhai near WiedaThe Stöberhai is with 720 m the highest mountain of the southern Harz. The origin of this regional extraordinary name is not clearly proven. It is believed that a charcoal burner by the name of Stöber had his coal deposit there, which was called a shark in the Harz.
When in 1899 the narrow-gauge railway line from Braunlage to Walkenried was built, a stop was built on the Stöberhai. With this station in the middle of the forest one wanted to crank the excursion traffic to the hotel. In 1963, this route was discontinued due to inefficiency, probably with a reason for the closure of the hotel. From the old station building, however, became the popular tourist restaurant "Station Stöberhai". The restaurant on Harzer Ridge is known for its game dishes. The feeding of wild animals connected to the restaurant has been staged every evening since the 1950s and can be observed from the guest room on the opposite slope of the wine cellar. But in addition to tourism, the Stöberhai acquired in the Cold War from 1967 special notoriety through its military reconnaissance towers. The radio monitoring system was used to listen to military radio communications in the GDR. The plants are the counterpart to the station operated by the Ministry of State Security of the GDR and the Soviet Union on the Brocken.Source: ausflugsziele-harz.de/ausflugsziele-sehenswertes/natur-nationalpark/stoeberhai-wieda.htm

A great view from the refuge in the direction of Wurmberg, Brocken and much more. In the refuge at the Stöberhei there is also the stamp box number 159 of the Harzer hiking needle and several old recordings of the Stöberhai from times when there was still an inn/hotel and many years later the radio monitoring system (reconnaissance tower) of the radio operators/telephone operators of the Bundeswehr have existed. The reconnaissance tower was blown up in a controlled manner on September 23, 2005. Just a few kilometers southwest is another striking vantage point (with a tower): the Ravensberg.
