Tips

  • Giuseppe Mazzini Gallery is Genoa's "living room", a covered walkway in the center of Genoa, near the Carlo Felice Theater and Piazza De Ferrari.
It runs parallel to Via Roma, the most elegant street in Genoa, where shops of important brands are located.
Both the Galleria Mazzini and Via Roma were built between 1870 and 1880
. Via Roma was originally the continuation of Via Assarotti, in this second part of the street it was decided to create a second row of buildings with a through tunnel interspersed with stained glass windows. In 1874 these works were declared of public utility by royal decree, leading to the opening of the Mazzini Gallery.
It is a typical example of iron architecture, a type of architectural production that spread in Europe at the beginning of the 19th century, especially in France and England, but also in Italy.
