The park was planned in 1913. The city of Bottrop initially wanted to call the complex “Kaiser Wilhelm Park”, but the plans were interrupted by the First World War - and this conflict also ended the imperial era. During this break, the people of Bottrop used the area as a vegetable garden. The city park was finally opened in 1921.
